Location: The western most part of the Republic of Croatia, the biggest peninsula in Adriatic. 45th parallel goes through Istria.
Area: 2.820 square km make a triangle from the river Dragonja on the west, cape Kamenjak on the south and mountain massif Ucka on the east.
Population: 200.000 inhabitants
Coast line: Indented coast is 445 km long. Istrian west coast is 242,5 km long which, together with the islands, make 327,5 km. The length of the Istrian east coast is 202,6 km, with the islands 212,4 km.
Climate: Mild Mediterranean climate with warm and dry summers and mild and pleasant winters.
Sea: The lowest sea temperature in March varies from 9,3°C to 11,1°C, while the highest temperature are reached in August varying from 23,3°C until 24,1°C. The salt level is 36 to 38 per mille.
Vegetation: Istria is the biggest green oasis of the northern Adriatic. Coast and the islands are covered with pine forests and easy to recognize evergreen underbrush. 35% of Istria is covered with forests.
Currency: Croatian national currency is Croatian Kuna (Kn). One can exchange the money in official exchange offices (banks, post offices, hotels, tourist agencies) according to current exchange list.
